The insurance industry faces a growing talent challenge. According to the 2026 Argo Industry Pulse Report, for every three insurance professionals expected to retire in the next decade, only about two younger workers are in the pipeline behind them. Argo is responding with programs that help the next generation of professionals across the industry build expertise, relationships and leadership skills.
- Ascend with Argo (AWA) makes underwriting expertise accessible. Through panel discussions, shadow sessions and conversations with underwriters and insurance leaders, AWA gives emerging brokers firsthand exposure to the people behind underwriting decisions. Owen McElroy, Broker Assistant at RT Specialty, said the program helped put faces to names. “We were able to go into breakout sessions and meet the day-to-day people we speak with, but also the leaders at Argo.”
- Underwriting insights help brokers strengthen submissions. Understanding how underwriters evaluate risks helps emerging brokers prepare more complete submissions and have more productive conversations with carriers. Lauren Leitner, Underwriting Manager, NY Construction at Argo, said shadow sessions show brokers what information underwriters need. “We can explain exactly what we need to get their submission to the top of the pile,” Leitner said.
- Industry leadership programs advance long-term career growth. Argo also supports the Emerging Leaders Conference, hosted by APCIA, The Insurance Careers Movement and AM Best. The event gives professionals from across insurance opportunities to develop leadership skills, exchange perspectives and build relationships that support their careers. Rebecca Wagner, Argo Workers’ Compensation Loss Control Director and past Emerging Leaders Conference leadership award recipient, said opportunities like the conference help professionals learn from different perspectives. “Investing in leadership development now will really determine where our industry goes next,” Wagner said.
